I discovered this trail by panning around on google earth to kill a little time. finding some specific insight and pix about something as obscure and intriguing as van fleet trail is what makes the internet what it is. Thanks for posting all of this! I live in downtown Orlando and cannot wait to get out there! thanks again for sharing this information with anyone who may be interested. we do exist! :)

We rode the 2-mile stretch of Progress Energy Trail this past weekend. No sign of construction south of Belleaire. However, there is fairly decent parking at the south end of the trail (Belleaire) - several spots adjacent to the road as well as a grassy area adjacent to the trail start. Still no "progress" on the bridge to nowhere, either.

Hello again,

I do mention this park in my writeup of the Venetian Waterway Trail in Venice, FL. I don't give a distance from the Venice Train Depot to Shamrock Park Nature Center. I looked at my map and used the scale of mile and calculated the distance to be approximately 3.75 miles (give or take). I hope this information helps.

Cheers ~ John

The Venice Train Depot is the dividing line between the Venetian Waterway Trail to the south and the Legacy Trail to the north. I covered them in separate posts and I don't necessarily cover every park that I pass on the trail since, obviously, stopping to document and take pictures in my free time adds considerable time to my ride. Now, if I gave up my day job, I might just bore everyone to death with every minute detail about a trail...lol

Hope you at least enjoyed the site.

Cheers ~ John

PS - You should be able to zoom in on the maps that are at the beginning of a post and find the park in question and that may give you an idea of the distance.

Lots of great photos and info on this trail. Many Florida paved trail websites are not very helpful with detailed info, so people will find themselves searching for long periods of time before they start their bicycle adventures. Good info makes for more enjoyable trips. All the best.
